A army of chimps taking over a city with force.... don't need to say all to much more to get me interested in this movie! Rise of the Planet of the Apes was great though, Rise actually feels like it is giving you the start of the Planet of the Apes story where we start seeing the evolution of Apes to the point where they become walking talking human ass kicking machines. Keep in mind this movie really stands alone quite well, there's no reason fore me to tell you to go watch the abomination delivered to us from Tim Burton, this gives a fresh start. From the start of the movie you meet Caesar, a money made abnormally smart by an experimental drug that James Franco is developing to treat Alzheimer's that was passed from Caesar's monkey momma to baby Monkey Lenin. We get to watch Caesar grow too and much like a human character we learn to love Caesar, then the predictable happens. Whats interesting with Rise of the Planet of the Apes is watching the character progression of a CG chimp. You literally watch this monkey go from being a loving family member to a jaded riot leading inmate of a prison hellbent on liberation of his people (apes). This is all fun and good but the real moment Apes shines is when all hell breaks loose and you finally see the misfit band of chimps hit the streets and kick some ass. Sure it caps off in a sweet caring way with works perfectly for the over all picture, but seriously Monkey Riot, whats more fun that that? Check it out, unless you hate damn dirty apes or just don't like fun give this one a try.
