Hannibal Lecter Gets A TV Show!

So NBC has gone ahead and ordered 13 episodes for a television show based off the Hannibal books by Thomas Harris.  I already know I am in the minority when it comes to lack of fandom and blind love for Dr. Lecter, I might be the only person who even found Silence of the Lambs over rated,  however I still managed to watch all the movies that came out and convinced myself to read the first 3 books.   So now that the legend of Hannibal has been exhausted I'm failing to see how making a show based off this character is a good idea.   To me this feels like nothing more than an attempt to draw in Dexter fans thinking all America wants is another psychopath to watch in prime time.   The character differences between Dexter and Hannibal aside I still don't know how you bring a story like this to network television.  I highly doubt that a channel like NBC will be given the slack a channel like AMC got with The Walking Dead so it seems reasonable to assume the gore factor will be relatively minimal. But thats my nerd side bitching for the sake of bitching. My biggest gripe is why do we need more of this character? His story has been told, received the highest achievement possible in film and then allowed the Lecter name to be tarnished by sequel hell.   So now we green light a tv series, because we all love to find a horse thats dead and start to beat it in hopes that it will breath once again.   I can't see how this show works especially being on network television but it appears I'm going to get to have to suffer it regardless. Look forward to future rants of doubt and nerd rage.
