12.Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday
Jason Goes to Hell was the first movie in the franchise after New Line bought the rights to the franchise and in my opinion its really the worst. Between Jason's spirit floating around and random possessions and the silly teaser at the end for Freddy vs Jason (which took seemingly forever to be brought to the screen) The Final Friday is just the lowest point of the franchise for me.
11. Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood
The New Blood was one of those movies where it was time to do something different with the franchise, bring a more paranormal element to this movie about a guy killing people who is brought back to life once a year, telekinesis why not? It was stupid, that's why not. The great thing about Friday the 13th is that it doesn't need to feel fresh in that way, the formula works, take 8-15 kids and kill them off 1 by 1, don't bring in some chick who seems to be using the force and act like camp blood is the best place for her to get therapy. Also, please don't make Jason Voorhees look like this.
If I wanted to see a crack head I can get in the car and go to Detroit, I'm only a 15 minuet drive away.
10. Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan
My girlfriend calls this movie "Jason Takes a Boat" which isn't entirely unfair since he spends the majority of the movie on a boat reminding us that the 80's were ridiculous and that it should be stabbed to death as many times as possible. For what it is this movie is still entertaining but definitely belongs on this end of the list. The one thing this movie really lacked was a scene with Jason walking up any number of streets in New York and just hacking left and right, you know really adding to his body count. Also, I just want to say it would be unfair to talk about this movie without including this scene, which really is one of the best scenes in all of cinema.
9. Jason X
Jason in space!!! Or Jason in the future in space or whatever. This movie was New Lines second hack with Jason and it just seemed to me like they went for the "that guys dead lolz" approach of making a movie, which surprisingly worked out ok. Mix that with super-cyborg-Voorhees and there ya go, stupid but kinda fun movie. Jason X also has the most humorous kill in not only this franchise but possibly all of horror, using one naked girl to beat another naked girl to death. Hot
8. Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives
Oh look Tommy is back... again. How the hell did that little asshole live through 3 god damn movies?! The only other person to survive Crystal Lake for a second movie was Alice from way back in the original, but that wasn't Jason that dropped the ball on that, his mom failed to add her to the body count, which was fixed rapidly in Part 2. Whatever, here's another hour and a half of Tommy vs Jason, its alright. Still think Jason would have pwned his traumatized ass by the end of Part 5.
7.Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning
A New Beginning is where the franchise started to turn more from being a great franchise into being a long running franchise. By that I mean to me the franchise is great from part 1 all the way to reboot, but there is a definite change in the style of film once we get going on part 5 on up. We get more Tommy in this movie but now he's pretty much a mute who every now and then blows up and beats the poop out of a random 80's stereotype. Some good deaths, some descent boobs and a Jason mask and presto! you get Friday the 13th 5. Oh yeah and there's this bizarre scene.
6.Friday the 13th (Reboot)
When I heard that we were gonna get a reboot of the Friday the 13th franchise I went into instant nerd rage, assuming that it would be crap and blah blah blah. All in all the reboot really isn't all to bad. Its got stupid kids, many of which you see around town and think "If I was Jason...." and yeah Jason fixes them. The only thing I didn't really care for or need in this movie was that stupid tunnel system that they put in to explain how Jason gets around camp. Don't need it! I don't need explanation as to why Jason is a superpower unexplained killing machine, he just is and that's all it needs to be. Over thinking these super killers seems to be a common theme among all these remakes that are coming out (Halloween, Nightmare, Texas Chainsaw) all guilty. Friday the 13th was way more enjoyable than any of those remakes, maybe just because I'm a Jason fan, but of we get more Frday the 13th remakes, and I'm sure we will, I hope there is less burrowing going on, I mean he isn't a gopher right.
5.Friday the 13th III: 3D
Although cheesey as hell sometimes this movie is still pretty damn good. This is also the first movie Where we get to see Jason put on the iconic hockey mask. Most of what makes this movie cheese is the 3D effects where characters have to swing things at the camera because that's awesome 3D was in the 80's. Are you ready for another video clip? Friday the 13th III has one of my all around favorite deaths in the series, simply brutal, check it out
4.Freddy vs Jason
Yeah, I'm a little surprised this one is up so high too, but if your really think about it Freddy vs Jason delivers. you get two icons for the price of one fucking up everyone! This was another movie I went into with relatively low expectations but ended up really having fun with. And honestly how could you not be pumped up at the end of the movie when Freddy and Jason are finally on screen together and have there end all wwf style brawl? Sure the plot of the movie sucked and blah blah blah, who cares, the movie is called Freddy vs Jason, what did you really expect? And how can you go wrong by putting Jason in a cornfield rave? You cant, you just cant.
3.Friday the 13th
The original, yes this is one of those rare cases where the original isn't the best of the series. This movie is still about as classic as it gets but the main reason why I am going to say this isn't the best of the movies is because... spoiler alert..... Jason isn't the killer. That aside its got Kevin Bacon getting killed and lays the ground work for what really becomes an amazing franchise. Betsy Palmer is great in this movie too, totally demented and creepy. If your looking for plot this is probably the way to go.
2.Friday the 13th Part II
Our first romp with Jason as the killer! Picking right up where his mom left off Part 2 is an amazingly well done continuation of the story and one of the only horror franchise flicks where the transition to a new killer makes sense. Through and through this movie is great all the way to the end were we get to see Jason have a nice little heart to heart with mother.... well whats left of mother. Honestly if you intend on watching only 1 movie out of all these part 2 is probably the best as a stand alone movie.
1.Friday the 13th IV: The Final Chapter
The Final Chapter!! Except for the 8 that came after it... This is my favorite Friday the 13th movie, it has every thing I want. Jason in the hockey mask swinging the machete killing everyone and traumatizing Cory Feldman. Everything in this movie is just right and just where I want a slasher flick. It truly is a masterpiece and sums up what the first 3 movies had tried to achieve rather well. To top it all off we get this, best dance scene ever!!!!
So that's it, my guide to ranking the Friday the 13th series worst to best. Hope you enjoyed and please comment with any disagreements or arguments or whatever.
