Nerd Sex GerBlah!!

Wow, I need to work on my in bed lines.

And In Beer News

What the hell is this?  Guinness Black Lager? Ok maybe I am a jaded asshole, this is a possibility but seriously when has anyone ever sat down ordered a Guinness and received a brew that was not a stout?!  The St. James's Gate brewery make other beers that do not bear the Guinness name (Bass, Smithwicks, Harks) so why now are they slapping the Guinness name on this new Lager as if the Brewery is the "Guinness Brewery".  It's not.  I don't have anything against black lagers as far as beer goes my point is this seems like some sort of gimmick to get people to buy a new beer just because it says Guinness on it.  Hopefully this will turn out as a good beer and shut me up, but I'm not a fan of gimmicks so it will have to be pretty damn good to make me buy more than one 6-pack to give it a try.

Steve Jobs Resigns

So the Messiah has decided to resign. Cant say I'm surprised.  I'm sure that Apple's stock will plummet until the iPhone 5 comes out and then it will come back up to normal.  I'm really not an apple fan boy, I don't own any Apple products and I don't currently use any of the software they produce.  Lets just hope who the direction of the company maintains its course because regardless if you love or hate Apple one can't deny that they have been the single biggest innovator of technology over the last ten years.  Who knows maybe flash will run on the next iPhone... no that's crazy talk.

You will need to click the link to read this flow chart but its totally worth it.  Deadspin or whoever put this chart together really did there homework because every team is pretty much dead on.

30 Minutes or Less

30 Minutes or Less,  a comedy with Danny McBride. I'm already sold (love that guy).  Anyway 30 Minutes or Less was a pretty fun flick.  The cast is genuinely funny and keeps you interested in the movie and the story moves along well so you don't ever find yourself bored in the movie.  The only thing I can say much past that is that I had hoped the movie would be funnier as a whole.  It has plenty of moments that will make you laugh but it has some down time where its almost more serious.  I was really hoping to leave the theater saying "that was the funniest thing I've seen this year" although I enjoyed the movie it was a far cry from funniest anything.  Don't pass on this movie, its fun and a enjoyable movie, but it's also a movie that you can rent/download/catch at a dollar show (if those even exist anymore) and not loose any of the experience.

Hesher-The Unable to Avoid Spoilers Review

"What's green and slimy and smells like Bacon?"-Hesher

Ah Hesher I was probably a little to excited for what this movie ended up offering me.  The bottom line is I liked this film.  At the core of it Hesher is the story of a family that is dealing with loss.  Hesher , the character that the film is named after, isn't even part of this family he's just the asshole that shows up to live on your couch and no one seems to care.  The character Hesher is extremely one dimensional  it's pretty clear that this was intended in the character from early in the film.  To an extent this works too but I watched the movie twice and both times it left me feeling like I needed more from the character.   Then there's TJ, the character that the story really revolves around.  TJ is a troubled kid who gets his ass kicked on a regular basis all while trying to buy back his mother's red station wagon tomb on wheels.  I'm not sure if Hesher is just trying to leach off this kid and his family or if he is in some way trying to act like a mentor to him, he certainly doesn't stick up for him, at least not at first, but by the end of the film you almost get the feeling that TJ and his father are pulling themselves out of their own depression on the back of Hesher and his warped way of life.  Lastly there is Natalie Portman, her character Nicole is really just sounding board for TJ, she seems to be the only person that looks at him as a person.  Considering how they end her characters involvement in the story I'm a little lost at what they were going for with her but she's ok, nothing to complain about.  As a whole this movie does leave you wanting more development with its characters and with the story but if your into independent dark stories that leave you thinking "what the hell did I just watch" for a day or two it meets that.  This is Spencer Susser's first full length film, and I don't think it was a bad flick, in fact it was interesting enough that I am looking forward to what he will put out in the future because there were a lot of things (camera work, cinematography, performances from actors) that I think he did pretty well with.  That being said I think Hesher is destined to become a cult classic at best, nothing spectacular but totally worth watching at least once.

Super Review: Shut Up Crime!

Super was a totally different movie than what I had expected and from what I thought the trailers were making it out to be.  This movie is the story of Frank D'Arbo who watches his wife basically get destroyed in front of his eyes by Kevin Bacon.  Due to this Frank decides that he is charged by god to become the Crimson Bolt, a gritty ass kicking socially awkward vigilante with the pipe-wrench of Christ on his side.  Eventually he is paired up with Ellen Page who becomes his significantly more attractive sidekick named Bolty.  The move is a little long but all in all it finds a pretty good balance of being funny and violent while still, surprisingly, managing to keep a relatively serious tone.  Rainn Wilson is not the typical character I have come to expect him to play, which is good I really like the guy and I'm glad that he can take on a role that isn't him just being the strange funny guy, hell by the end of the movie I even buy him as a bad ass face smashing crime stopping arbiter of justice.  As always Page is great, first class all the way.  Ellen Page is easily one of my favorite young actress' out there and this movie prove again just how cool she is.  Like most of my reviews I don't really like giving out spoilers and this movie does have a few unexpected moments in it that I wouldn't want ruined for me.  Super is great though, totally worth watching. If your a fan of comics, super hero tales, or anti-hero shananagans give this movie a try.
